OUGD502 Studio Brief 1 | Blok Design Reply

At the end of the interview, I asked whether the studio has any sort of placement and if so how would one apply.

7) Do Blok provide internships/placements? If so, how does one apply?

send your info, your bio and we take it from there!
best of luck!

I really would like a work placement over the summer as I think it would be a huge help going into level six. It would give me a great insight into the industry and how things work rather than the usual environment I'm used to while also looking good on my CV for any future jobs.

I also really want to travel this summer, so I thought, why not merge the two and apply for a placement abroad. I knew I was really into the Toronto creative scene so after looking around I found a few studios in the Toronto area who's work I liked and asked them. Unfortunately, two of the studios didn't get back to me but Blok were kind enough to respond and told me to send my bio and info. Which is what I did:

My name is Dan Hart-Davies and I’m currently in my second year of my graphic design degree at the renowned Leeds College of Art in the UK. I’m originally from Liverpool but moved to Leeds to attend LCA as the course is known to be one of the best in the country but also looked extremely interesting and hands-on, which was very appealing to me.

Outside of graphic design my passions include photography and music, both of which influence my taste and help me progress and experiment with my work. Since starting my course I have discovered my favourite aspect of graphic design is editorial and publication design, which often plays into my love of photography. One day I do hope to maybe specialise in editorial but until then I want to try anything and everything to gain as much experience as possible, which is why I think a work placement at Blok would be perfect.

The creative scene in Toronto at the moment is fascinating to me and I feel like the only way I can really experience it is to contribute towards it and work there. Blok’s work has influenced my own work over the past couple of months as I find the work you do to be so interesting and so similar to what I one day hope to produce. e way image and type are put together to work so well in harmony in projects such as Lucha: e Tribute, is Is Not A Toy, and PAR is something I want to improve and achieve in my own work and I think Blok is the best place for me to possibly learn.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you to discuss this further. Dan

I made sure to include my self-branding as it will give them an indication as to what my style is like, hopefully it came across well and they liked the design.
