OUGD402 Studio Brief 2 | Crit Feedback & Adjustments

Overall I was very happy with the feedback I received for my personal branding. Everybody seemed to really like the logo and John commented on how he liked the way the business cards had my information both ways; round which I was pleased about.

One person did ask why I had put 'DHD' on the front twice which made me think maybe at first look it may be clear that one is upside-down, so I changed the position of the two 'DHDs' to try and correct that.

OUGD402 Studio Brief 2 | Logo & Brand Concept - Convenience

I often get told I'm a very laid back person. In the past this has gotten me into a bit of trouble because my teachers didn't like how I wasn't stressing over work, tests and deadlines.

I'm a big fan of convenience and I think this stems from my relaxed nature. I don't particularly like fuss and I like things to go smoothly, like most people. Due to this I wanted to design my brand around the concept of 'convenience'.

The logo I designed for myself is just thick, simple lines. Nothing too complex.
I also designed it so it is symmetrical both horizontally and vertically, which allows me to not worry about it being printed the right way up or if it's been flipped and things like that.

I like monotone colours, so I kept my brand to four colours; black, dark grey, light grey and white. This allows for easy, consistent print.

For my business cards, I wanted to keep to my concept, so it got me wondering how a business card could be any more convenient? Then I thought it would be great if you could just pass the business card straight someone without worrying about whether it's upside down or not which I then went with to design a business card that works both ways, like me logo. The upside to this is the other person can glance at it as soon as they get it without having to rotate it and instantly read it.

OUGD402 Studio Brief 2 | Logo Inspiration

I like this logo below due to its sharp angles and overall geometric look. I feel the bold lines in this design allow it to easily take on any colour scheme and be recognisable.

Another reason I will take inspiration from this is the fact it works well for a stamp, which for some reason I just really like. I think it combines a traditional element of design with the modern logo type and just creates a really nice look.

I also really like how this logo works both ways (upside-down).

The next logo I found on Pintrest, which I don't usually use. The only thing I like about this one below is the use of a diamond shape rather than a circle like you normally see on logos with this style.

Again I like the way this logo works both ways.

OUGD402 Studio Brief 2 | Logo Research

Before I started anything I wanted to have alook at existing logos. I already had kind of an idea of what I wanted my logo to look like or a kind of style I wanted it to have so at first I just googled 'stamp logos'.

These were ok but I found most of them to be pretty generic and similar to one another. I then decided that I would use my initials 'DHD' as the main feature of my logo whatever it may be. I think using my initials rather than my full name or even just my surname is more effective as it's quicker, easier to remember and pretty unique.

Next I googled 'DHD Logo' just to see what was already out there and they were all terrible.

As I was using my initials, I thought maybe looking at family crests would help me, which it did to a certain degree.

OUGD402 Studio Brief 1 | International Art Festival Branding

I came across this project when researching different exhibition and festival branding ideas for our OUGD406 Studio Brief 3.

I really like the overall look of this project as I think it's extremely eye-catching and you just want to keep looking at it closer. Although the type can be hard to read on a couple of posters, I still think it works extremely well with the branding and the look of it.

Even though this didn't influence our project, I still think it will help me in future projects to be more experimental and possibly more abstract in my design.
