OUGD402 Studio Brief 2 | Logo Similar To Mine

While I was going over my blog and just checking everything and seeing if there was anything I could add, I came across a page of logos and there was one in particular that caught my eye as it looks very similar to the one I designed for my personal branding.

OUGD402 Studio Brief 1 | Casey Neistat - Film Maker

Although not a graphic designer, I feel Casey Neistat's work somehow inspires me in my own work.

Casey Neistat is a film maker based in New York City and has a series of successful short movies. This movies vary in topic but the main theme seems to be what he describes as a 'public service announcement', where he finds an issue and almost 'exposes' it for the public to see.
His first successful piece of work is a 3 minute video titled 'Bike Lanes', where Neistat shows how the bike lanes in New York are far more dangerous than people realise. This move went viral before YouTube even existed and got global media attention.

Since then Neistat has had a string of outstanding short movies and awards and an extremyky successful advertsing career where he has worked with the likes of Nike, Mercedes and J. Crew.
I think part of Neistat's success is his uniqu stlye and aesthetic in his videos and adverts. Take his advert for Nike for example; 'Make It Count'.

The use of what I think is Helvetica Bold in all caps in use with the straight cut editing makes it extremely easy for the viewer to take in and digest, focusing on the video content rather than any fancy effects.

Neistat does have his own aesthetic and I think that's down to him being a creative person, because althpugh he's not a graphic designer, I see aspects of his work and life that definielty link to graphic design, like his handwriting.

Although it could be argued everybody's handwriting is a typeface, I feel Neistat's is more so than anyone else's. Whenever he writes in all caps, which is almost always, the 'I' is always lower case, but when he doesn't write in all caps, it's a mixture of lower and uppercase letters. This handwriting style fits his aesthetic perfectly as has a very much 'DIY attitude' which can be seen in his day to day life but also all of the stop motion animations in his videos.
